Popular Mechanics The Art of Mechanical Drawing: A Practical Course for Drafting and Design

Before our modern age of computer-aided design, apprentice draftsmen perfected their art by hand. Manual drafting was once a lovingly nurtured and prized skill. Now, the editors of Popular Mechanics have revived their classic handbook in a compact and beautifully produced new edition. Graphic designers, engineers, artists—in fact, anyone who appreciates the craft of hand-drawn design—will be fascinated by this lovely volume.
More than an introduction to a different era, this practical course will teach a beginner everything he or she needs to know, including explanation of the tools required, geometric exercises for various difficulty levels, and an expansive glossary of terms. A special course for novices teaches the fundamentals of drafting in seven easy steps.
With its brand new foreword by the editors of Popular Mechanics and the original, elegant line art from the 1919 text, this essential course will be treasured by would-be artists of any age.

Recalling Sudek

Recalling Sudek

"During his long life (1896-1976), Czech photographer Josef Sudek was known as the "Poet of Prague" for good reason. Born 20 miles east of the city, he seldom left the region before being drafted into the army in World War I. And after he was wounded by one of his own men, causing his right arm to be amputated, he made only a few trips in Europe before deciding never to leave Prague again, a decision by which he abided.
For 50 years, Sudek photographed solely in the parks, streets, gardens and forests of Prague or in his (Prague) studio. But such was the magic of his pictures that they suggested a universality of experience that drew others to him. Foremost among the visitors was Sonia Bullaty, who, after World War II, left a German concentration camp to become, briefly, Sudek's assistant and, more importantly, a lifelong friend and collector of his images."
