Dining room, 1989

Dining room, 1989

My dining room, looking towards the back garden. The original entrance to the kitchen is on the left. Sunday 08 January 1989.

I am still using the same dining table* and chairs (bought from MFI). I really would like to replace the table with a more traditional wooden extendible dining table, similar to what my parents and Grandma use to have many years ago. I already have four traditional wooden chairs made of oak that were originally in my Grandmas house, however two of them do require the dark brown leather seats to be reupholstered.

When I bought the house the previous owners had painted the dining room wallpaper "Milk Chocolate brown". I repainted them "Dawn Mist" as seen here. No work had yet taken place on landscaping the back garden when this photo was taken.

*A dining table is where you sit and have meals with family or friends and hold a conversation (with the television in the lounge stitched off). I do prefer to use a dining table rather than sitting in the lounge on a couch to eat your food where you end up spilling most of it all down the front of your clothes while watching some c**p soap on the tv.

The plastering is finished and drying.

I've always wanted to spend money lavishley, but never dreamed it would be on a dining room.
We spent all day looking at furniture, flooring and paint. Decided on a light oak dining table and chairs, a solid (darker) oak floor, and light yellow/cream on the walls - we even ordered some vertical blinds for the window and the living room.

Looked a great day for photography, but I missed it! Did have tea in Betty's (2 days in a row). Bet the weather is non-photographic tomorrow! Ah well.

If I haven't commented much on your pictures recently, the above picture is part of the reason why.

lefton pink roses bowl

lefton pink roses bowl

Three beautiful pink roses surrounded by lush green leaves and pink rose buds are found inside this bowl with a single pink rose bud on its square, pedestaled base made by Lefton China, circa 1949 - 1955. The edge of the bowl is reticulated and brushed with gold trim, as is each corner of the base. Both the bowl and the pedestal are marked with the Lefton crown, the bowl with the red and gold Lefton sticker, and both stamped 20053N. This piece stands 4 ?" tall and the bowl measures 7 1/4" across and is 2" deep. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and would make a lovely piece to own!

I can think of so many uses for this. In the bathroom for your extra soaps, next to your bed to hold your jewelry overnight, on your dressing table, a pretty serving dish for parties. Well you get the idea.
